Arcade Fire has released an interactive video to accompany the track We Used To Wait. The video was created by director Chris Milk, in association with Google Chrome (though it worked just fine when I tried it with Firefox yesterday).

Just enter your childhood address, click search and watch the clever use of pop-ups combine with your information to personalise the video.

Light-test.com is an intriguing archive of...yup, light tests. Insightful snaps taken before photo shoots, they capture more casual moments, humourous and revealing, showing the subject and photographer in a different light (no pun intended).

The photographer of this canine fellow is Gustavo Arrais.

Spot The Tiger is a brilliant project started by Michael Corbett-Reakes with help and support from Aisling Musgrove of Goldsmiths Debating Society.

It is a place for debate and social innovation, posing a new poll question each week which is also illustrated by a guest creative. This week the question is "should we have a referendum prior to going to war?" and the excellent artwork has been created by Dan Matutina - check out more of his work here.

Wed, 27 Jan 2010 12:52:00 -0800 legend has it... http://www.hoveringcat.com/legend-has-it http://www.hoveringcat.com/legend-has-it

Legend has it that Pablo Picasso was sketching in the park when a bold woman approached him.

“It’s you — Picasso, the great artist! Oh, you must sketch my portrait! I insist.”

So Picasso agreed to sketch her. After studying her for a moment, he used a single pencil stroke to create her portrait. He handed the women his work of art.

“It’s perfect!” she gushed. “You managed to capture my essence with one stroke, in one moment. Thank you! How much do I owe you?”

“Five thousand dollars,” the artist replied.

“B-b-but, what?” the woman sputtered. “How could you want so much money for this picture? It only took you a second to draw it!”

To which Picasso responded, “Madame, it took me my entire life.”

I read this story a few years back on Drawn! - who knows if it's true or not? It definitely stuck in my mind, anyway. It probably strikes a chord with most creative people. If you have a skill or talent, just remember this tale and value your efforts accordingly.

Here's how Britain looked a couple of days back.

COLD.

From what I hear there could be more snow on the way. I think we should all collaborate and make the world's biggest snowman...

Sat, 02 Jan 2010 09:14:00 -0800 czech it out http://www.hoveringcat.com/9375279 http://www.hoveringcat.com/9375279

I recently enjoyed a wonderful trip to Prague, the beautiful capital city of the Czech Republic. Aside from seeing the many Christmas markets, an odd pet shop (have you ever seen a toad in a pet shop?) and a theatrical production very loosely based on Alice (I don't recall Alice taking her clothes off in any version I've previously seen or read), I found an amazing shop called U Zlaté Číše.

Photo courtesy of jmsmytaste, due to the fact that I was too distracted by searching through millions of boxes of old paper to take a photo of my own.

I actually spent a large slice of Christmas Day sitting on the floor of this shop, flicking through the treasures in this cave-like establishment. I bought quite a lot. And then I returned on Boxing Day to look (and buy) some more. A few of the finds I have managed to scan in can be viewed below, presented in a handy little gallery with fancy thumbnails and suchlike. If you click on most of the images you should be able to see them in more detail.

Hope you enjoy looking through these as much as I did searching for them!

Fri, 04 Dec 2009 06:12:00 -0800 button badge paradox http://www.hoveringcat.com/button-paradox http://www.hoveringcat.com/button-paradox

A paradox exists within these button badges. Surely the blue is correct. However, if the blue button is in fact true then it must actually be false.

My head hurts.

Quite a lot of effort on the behalf of an artist from MAC Cosmetics, who painted a woman as a figure from a Roy Lichtenstein painting for Halloween. I wish I'd thought of this! Photos from Tasha Marie.

This is the world of Mameshiba - there are many more of these videos on their Youtube channel. I have watched them all.
